However, Since 1996 2nd December has been celebrated in Assam as the Sukaphaa Divas, or Axom Divas (Assam Day). ■This holiday is to commemorate the great unifier & the founder of the great Ahom dynasty in Assam, Swargadeo Saulung Sukapha. ■Asom Divas celebrates the his advent in Assam after his journey over the Patkai Hills. ■Founder of the 600-year-old Ahom kingdom, Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha unified the land and was a symbol of harmony, good governance & courage. ■It is believed that Sukaphaa arrived in Namrup, Assam on 2nd December 1228.
