Penang-Style Muah Chee in 10 Mins

Penang-Style Muah Chee is a street snack commonly found in Penang and Singapore. ‘Muah’ is sesame and ‘Chee’ are seeds in Fujian, a Chinese dialect. Soft, chewy, savory and sweet, our homemade version has been tried and tested repeatedly, is super simple, foolproof, and very, very delicious. It’s also gluten-free and a crowd pleaser – which makes for the perfect tea party nibble. You can easily make a larger batch (our recipe serves 4 large or 6 small servings) by doubling or tripling the recipe. You may also choose to make a bigger portion of the peanut mixture and store the excess in an airtight container in the fridge and literally whip up Muah Chee whenever the craving hits. TIPS: Alternatively, you may use a non-stick pan with lid and flip the dough over with a spatula when the edges turn translucent, for about 3 minutes on each side on medium heat. @1:07 Glutinous rice flour can be found at your local Asian Grocer and at most good supermarkets. You may buy ready ground peanut powder or grind your own. Roast raw blanched peanuts in 350F/175C for 15 – 20 minutes, let it cool completely and grind in food processor to a fine texture. Toast sesame seeds in dry skillet for 2-3 minutes on medium heat, tossing often, until lightly brown.
