Editorial: Leave the fireworks to the pros

You see the video every year about this time, safety officials demonstrating the power of the very same fireworks you can buy online or at a roadside stand. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports fireworks being involved in 11,000 injuries treated in U.S. emergency departments last year. And the majority of those injuries were burns. So as with every year, the "Ooo's" and "Ahhs!" must come with some caution. Use legal fireworks in regions where they are legal, and Baltimore City is not one of those places. As you prepare to celebrate our nation's independence, this is time young people should be dependent on adults for their own good. No adult, no fireworks. The only role for children is to sit back and enjoy the show. And the easiest way to make it a carefree celebration, leave it to the professionals. Tap here for a list of fireworks in the Baltimore area. Here's to a fun and safe Fourth of July.
