AAPS celebrates Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day

Staff and students at several schools in the district today raised awareness for World Down Syndrome Day by wearing their brightest, loudest and mismatched socks. Eberwhite fifth grade teacher Maria DeRosia, the mother of a son with Down syndrome, explains that the 21st day of March (3/21) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome, and that chromosomes resemble the shape of socks.
