Uprighting Flipped Fifth Wheel Trailer

Uprighting Flipped Fifth Wheel Trailer

We uprighted a fifth wheel trailer that flipped on its side in a wind storm. First we used two 20 ton jacks and cinder blocks to raise the passenger side off the ground about 3 feet (this probably was not needed). Then we dug under the passenger side tires to prevent them from pushing back on the dirt during lifting. Then we wrapped a tree saver strap around the springs and shackles, and attached a snatch block to it. We routes the cable from a 12,000 lb winch around the snatch block. Since there was absolutely nothing to anchor the winch to, we attached the winch and hook to two 0.25" steel plates. We then drove four 1" x 40" tent stakes into the ground through holes in the steel plates. A stabilizer plate was used at each tent stake to keep the stakes from cutting through the sandy soil. We also placed two stacks of used tires under the driver side frame rail to cushion the landing. The actual lifting was very easy, and the trailer came down softly onto the tire stacks, without causing any additional damage.
