One of the most commonly asked questions by patients going through different stomach cancers is regarding the speed at which cancer spreads and the risk that cancer will carry if it gets spread faster. This cancer is one of the 4th most common cancers found in Indians, however, this is a very deadly tumour and should be taken care of within a particular time span and at the correct stage. 1:18 How does stomach cancer spread. Stomach cancer starts spreading from the inner lining of the stomach which is called mucosa and from there as it grows it reaches and invades the layers of the stomach such as the submucosa, muscle layer and then the outermost layer called serosa. this can also grow and reach the blood vessels and other organs around it like the lungs and liver. 2:03 The stages of stomach cancer. The speed at which the tumour grows depends on the grade of the tumour, Aggressive grade leads to fast growth which is usually found in the younger crowd or the patients with a genetic mutation or rather patients with hereditary risk ( parents or grandparents having the same condition). 2:51 Stage 1 vs stage 2, stage 3, stage 4. At an early stage, the tumour does not have the access to the blood vessels or the lymphatics but as it grows and goes to the other stages where it invades the muscle layers it has an access to the lymphatics and the blood vessels which means it can spread easily and soon; after this, the growth of the stomach cancer is rapid and faster than before as it can grow within weeks and months(faster). Having an awareness of the tumour is very important, treatment should be started as soon as the tumour is diagnosed, as most of the time patients are unaware of their condition as there are no prominent symptoms at an early stage. this cancer is usually detected at an early stage if doing endoscopy for other diseases or problems.
