Sinfonia No. 14 in B-flat major, BWV 800 - J.S. Bach

Sinfonia No. 14 in B-flat major, BWV 800 - J.S. Bach

Wow I still know how to play piano. I learned the first page many years ago and only after many, many years, did I pick up this piece again to finish it up. I recorded this back in June 2024. I remember struggling a lot with it then (and now), especially with the fingering and voicing. That said, it was actually super fun and enjoyable to learn. I don't think I appreciated a lot of Bach's work when I was younger but going through this piece (and prior to this, Invention in C major), it definitely made me appreciate his writing/compositional style a lot more. Contradictory to what I thought a lot about Baroque music growing up, I realized there is actually a lot of "freedom" in the style especially when highlighting the different voices/counterpoint. It was a lot of fun to play, even if very challenging. Performance-wise, there are a lot of things I've learned more about and would therefore improve upon, but after recording this 1000000 times...this is the recording I've settled with lol. Changes I'd make are definitely highlighting more of the subject when it shows up in the bass or tenor and a couple timing/accuracy things, but ah well. You win some and you lose some :). Any ways, I do feel like the Sinfonias are a bit overlooked but I think they really are great pieces, especially if you are planning to step up from the Two-part inventions. They're all two pagers, are great as pedagogical pieces, and are overall just very well written! Thanks for taking the time to read and listen. Cheers.
