3-year-old, adult shot and killed in Louisville

Police confirmed one child and one adult have died after a shooting in the Jacobs neighborhood Friday afternoon. MetroSafe said it received reports of one adult and one juvenile shot on the 3700 block of Kahlert Ave. at around 1 p.m. LMPD said officers located a deceased man in his mid-20s and one juvenile with gunshot wounds. The child, whose family has identified as 3-year-old Trinity Randolph, was taken to Norton Children's Hospital where she later died. Her great grandmother, Cheryl Howlett, can't fathom the thought that her three year old great granddaughter was shot and killed. "I want answers. I want to know. I just know my baby's dead," Howlett said. She found out when her son called from the hospital. Police took her to Norton Children's Hospital after finding her shot on Kahlert. Trinity wasn't the only one whose life was taken in this shooting. LMPD tells us a man in his twenties was found dead when they got to the Jacob neighborhood. Cheryl tells us it was it was her baby's father. "All we heard was it was a drive by, the house was shot up," Howlett said. Still begging for answers from LMPD, the only information available is from neighbors, like Tony Hickman. "I thought somebody was shooting firecrackers like pop, pop, pop pow," Hickman said. He heard about six shots at first, didn't see where the shots came from. Shots this family now knows, took the life of their toddler. LMPD hasn't told us if there are any suspects or if anyone has been arrested but during a time where shootings are at an all time high, we do know this family has now been added to the long list of those affected by gun violence. "And now we know what it's like, we understand how other families feel," said another family member. LMPD's Homicide Unit is currently investigating. Following the shooting, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer released the following statement: The fatal shooting today of two people, including a 3-year-old, was a terrible tragedy – as is every single homicide in our city. My heart breaks for the families of those impacted by the spike in violence we are seeing. LMPD is working every day to reduce this spike but they cannot do it alone.
