According to a online jobs site aimed at stay at home moms, the number of young mothers working as phone sex hotline operators from home spiked 400 percent in the past 18 months. The women say jobs are hard to find in this economy, and being a cell phone girlfriend is both lucrative and allows them the flexibility they need to care for their kids. Phone sex hotlines were popular in the 90s, before the rise of the internet. Typically, cell phone girlfriends worked from call centers. But with the improvement of technology, operators can simply take their calls from home, making it an online business. Precautions are taken so that the operator's real identity and phone numbers are not revealed to the customers. The women are often ambivalent about their part-time job. It can be uncomfortable to talk dirty while their kids are sleeping in the same house.
