In this video, I’m going to explain: o What the nervous system freeze response is o Why it happens o How we can retrain it o And I’ll guide you through a meditation to help you begin exiting freeze • If you feel numb, disconnected, unmotivated, collapsed, or stuck this may be a freeze response, and this video provide everything you need to retrain your nervous system out of it. What Is the Freeze Response? • Freeze is a survival response • It happens when the nervous system perceives danger and fight or flight doesn’t feel possible • It can be a common prolonged response, that can follow adversity, trauma, or emotional overwhelm • The body shuts down to conserve energy and protect you • Common signs: o numbness o dissociation o disconnection o despair o heaviness o low energy o brain fog o feeling stuck o emotional shutdown • Freeze is not weakness. It’s protection Can We Retrain Freeze? • Yes • The nervous system is neuroplastic • Freeze can become less frequent and less intense • We retrain freeze using somatic embodiment work During this process, we do two things: 1. Exposure 2. Safety Using somatic embodiment practice consistently on your freeze response, we can retrain our nervous system to spend less time here, and also be able to shift out of it easier. While doing somatic embodiment work please ensure your freeze response is at a mild to moderate level, and you can tolerate attending to it somatically.
