Super Bowl 37 Champions One of the Best Defenses of All Time I have all the respect in the world for the 1985 Bears, the 2000 Ravens, and the Steelers Steel Curtain in the 70s. Those defenses were better than the 02 Bucs. As a diehard Bucs fan I’m willing to admit that, but when I hear people actually putting the 2013 Seahawks and 2015 Broncos above the 2002 Buccaneers I can’t help but to lose my cool. I don’t know how anyone could honestly say those teams had better defenses. Especially the 2015 Broncos. The stats don’t lie. 2002 Buccaneers Super Bowl 37 Champions *1st overall in pts against (196) *1st overall in yards against (252.7 yds/game) (4.2 yds/play) *1st overall in pass defense (155.6 yds/game) 5th overall in rush defense (97.1 yds/game) (3.8 yds/carry) *1st overall in interceptions (31) 6th overall in sacks (43) *1st overall in opposing passer rating (48.4) *1st overall opposing net yards per drive (20.4) 2013 Seahawks Super Bowl 48 Champions 1st overall in pts against (231) 1st overall in yards against (273.3 yds/game) (4.4 yds/play) 1st overall in pass defense (172.0 yds/game ) 7th overall in rush defense (101.6 yds/game) (3.9 yds/carry) 1st overall in interceptions (28) 8th overall in sacks (44) 1st overall in opposing passer rating (63.4) 1st overall opposing net yards per drive (23.4) 2015 Broncos Super Bowl 50 Champions 4th overall in pts against (296) 1st overall in yards against (283.1 yds/game) (4.4 yds/play) 1st overall in pass defense (199.6 yds/game) *3rd overall in rush defense (83.6 yds/game) (3.3 yds/carry) 13th overall in interceptions (14) *1st overall in sacks (52) 4th overall in opposing passer rating (78.8) 1st overall in opposing nets yards per drive (22.5) Denver has one great game against a below average O-line, a RB above the age of 30, and had the SUPER tough task of covering Ted Ginn Jr. and Jerrico Cotchery and people suddenly consider this team an all time great defense. And I don’t want to hear anyone say the Broncos offense didn’t help them all season. The 02 Bucs had the 24th ranked offense in 02. Denver had the 19th this past season. The Bucs offense was no better if not worse. Plus the Bucs dominated in the playoffs, more than Denver. 2013 Seattle makes my top 10 not top five. 2015 Denver wouldn’t even make my top 15. Great defensive Super Bowl for them. All-time great defense? Hell no. You also cant use the "pass happy era" card either. So its harder to play defense? Tough luck. Just because its a little harder to play Defense doesnt make them a better defense. It's the other way around. The new NFL is ruining all time great defenses becuase they dont let defenders play.
