Training Palm Cockatoo: Step Up

https://ParrotWizard.com/Academy One of the first tasks with any parrot is to teach step up. You really don't want to have a bird that can't be picked up as it makes it difficult to accomplish anything. Rather than use gloves for having a parrot step up, it's much better to use positive reinforcement training. This genuinely teaches the bird to want to step up and be on the hand. Don't put your hand directly in front of the parrot because it can bite. By showing the hand to the side, it gives the parrot time to think and choose whether to step up or not.
