Nielsen ratings, they would give a small percentage of people boxes that tracked what was watched. The participants would list the age and sex and other demographics of people living in the house. Then they would assume the households that participated in their program represented the general viewership. In 1999, Steve Austin set all-time wrestling box office records in nearly every city in the country, selling out 70 percent of live shows and averaging more than 12,000 paid per night. Austin worked 100+ House shows in 98 and worked 40 in 1999. Rock did 100+ shows in 1999 and 100+ again in 2000, so he broke the record based on how many show they ran. but Austin's peak attendance average in 1999 was higher than Rock's.
