How better foodborne outbreak investigations can make food safer - Robert Tauxe
Food safety takes constant vigilance. Finding unsuspected disease outbreaks and fixing the problems that caused them is key to protecting public health. DNA sequencing now helps public health officials find and solve more outbreaks, and target prevention measures. With partners from farm to fork, we can make food safer for everyone. Robert Tauxe, MD, MPH, is Director of the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A recognised authority on food safety, he has overseen responses to hundreds of foodborne disease outbreaks, working with colleagues to apply ever-improving laboratory and epidemiologic methods to detect, characterise, and contain the spread of foodborne pathogens.
