Bulk carrier runs aground in Detroit River

A large freighter ran aground in the Detroit River near Belle Isle. The vessel, named Mark W. Barker, experienced a sudden loss of power and manoeuvrability while passing Belle Isle on its way to Milwaukee. The Pennsylvania, a 20-metre-long tugboat, approached the bulk carrier a couple of hours later, and eventually freed it. According to reports, the Mark W. Barker was carrying 20,000 metric tonnes of rock salt.
