COLUMBUS (Mike McCarthy/Ken Hines) -- A Franklin County judge ruled on Wednesday morning that a teenager charged with the murder of another juvenile will stay behind bars. Jakairion Spikes's attorney entered an appeal of denial in juvenile court, though his young client waived his right to appear in front of the judge. Police have charged Spikes, 16, with murder after he allegedly shot and killed Shaquez Brunner, 13, on Tuesday afternoon. Friends and family members told ABC 6/FOX 28 Brunner got into an argument with other teens on a front porch of one of the units at The Aspen Place Apartments. They say moments later, they heard gunfire. Police say Brunner and three other teens had been passing around and playing with a handgun. Spikes has claimed that the shooting was accidental, according to investigators. Brunner was rushed to nearby Doctor's West Hospital, where he died around 4 p.m., according to detectives. Spikes, a registered junior at Briggs High School, has been ordered to remain in a juvenile detention facility.
