The Afghan National Army: (ANA) was established in 2006 by a decree issued by President Hamid Karzai. The Afghan National Army is part of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), led by the Ministry of Defense, and the Afghan National Police (ANP). The ANA is a force of choice for all Afghan social and ethnic groups. The ANA was supposed to have basically six armed forces. The Afghan National Army has been one of the five pillars of the Afghan government's security sector reform strategy since its inception in 2001 under the Bonn Agreement. Duties of the Afghan National Army: (1): Border protection and prevention of external threats. (2): Defeating the terrorist forces. (3): Destroying, reuniting or arresting illegal armed groups.
