The recent invasion by Islamist militia in Mali, has created uncertainty about the safety and future of the Timbuktu manuscripts, which experts say are evidence of Africa's contribution to global civilization. Over 2000 documents were destroyed when the Islamist fighters fled Timbuktu following ten months of occupation. These manuscripts had written history dating back to the 13th century.
