Spectrum dropping channels?

So I find it a little odd that there is a commercial on Nick utilizing some of their stars to advocate for Spectrum to keep Viacom channels. Is it some kind of scam to get people to call in or is it that big a deal that they felt that aiming it at the children would be necessary? I can hear it now, "Mom, call the number so we don't lose Nick!" It's really weird to me...
