Diving into Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

There are many diagnoses that can affect the upper limb, even in the setting of neck pain. Many times, neck pain with arm pain is assumed to be cervical radiculopathy. But, there are times when two concurrent diagnoses exist- sometimes called double crush syndrome. Two of the more common diagnoses that are seen with neck pain are shoulder pain (we sometimes jokingly refer to the as shneck pain) and carpal tunnel syndrome. In this video, Dr. Joves dives deeper into carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a very common pathology that affects patients of all ages. More specifically, carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression and irritation of the median nerve at the carpal canal. Patients usually present with numbness and tingling in thumb, index, long, and half of the ring finger. The symptoms tend to be worse at night time, while driving, or any time the wrist is in a flexed or extended position for a prolonged period of time.
