The market is dominated by a few countries, with China accounting for the largest share at approximately 60%. The United States comes in second, followed by Brazil and Russia. The trends have been consistent since 2013, with the growth of poultry imports from the U.S. outweighing the decrease from China.The United States is the largest producer of poultry in the world, accounting for over 20% of total global production, followed by Brazil and China with about 2% each. The United States also produces more broilers than any other country, representing approximately 87% of global output.The demand for poultry meat has increased on account of the increasing population and urbanization. Some other factors driving demand are a greater awareness of the health benefits associated with poultry and rising prices especially in countries where poultry is a staple food, such as China. In 2020, global imports of fresh, chilled, or frozen chicken totaled 21.4 billion dollars. Imported frozen poultry accounted for 15.9 billion dollars which is 74.3 percent of the total. Asia purchased 63.5 percent of frozen chicken imports but only 6.6 percent of fresh or chilled chicken. Germany accounts for 14.8 percent of fresh or chilled chicken imported. France accounts for 12.4 percent, and the Netherlands account for 9.5 percent. Hong Kong was the fastest-growing importer of fresh or chilled Chicken since 2016 coming up by 37 percent. The 15 nations with the largest dollar value of frozen chicken imports in 2020 are shown here. China was up by 180.4 percent, Vietnam came up by 171.1 percent, Ghana up by 131.3 percent, and the Netherlands were the fastest-growing importers during 2016. Fresh chicken shipments accounted for 6.2 billion dollars in global sales in 2021, while exported frozen chicken accounted for 15.5 billion dollars. The top five fresh chicken exporters which are the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, the United States, and Germany accounted for slightly over two-thirds of the global total. Brazil accounts for 35.4 percent of total frozen poultry sales worldwide. The United States and the Netherlands are also among the top frozen chicken exporters. Thailand was the fastest-growing frozen poultry exports since 2016 up by 79.6 percent.
