Wide of Tal Afar STORYLINE A US military operation has finished in Tal Afar, a northwestern city near the Syrian border. The city was a scene of destruction and after bloody clashes between combined US-Iraqi forces and insurgents, and the majority of the residents had fled. US forces were still searching the city for insurgents on Friday, sweeping streets with their US humvees and patrolling the city on foot. Several houses and shops were destroyed. A small number of people returned to the city on Friday, but many stayed away fearing a renewal of clashes. At the same time, a US mobile military medical unit treated people suffering from injuries and illnesses. Medical US staff could be seen treating a small child suffering from an eye allergy. People who retuned to Tal Afar expressed their hardships in the refugee camp and the loss of most of their belongings in Tal Afar.
