Wide of protesters walking STORYLINE The government of Ivory Coast is suspending import taxes on a host of food staples amid protests in its largest city against high prices. In a statement on national television, the government of the West African country says it is suspending all duties and import taxes on rice, oil, milk, flour, sugar, fish and tomato paste. The move came as protests against the high cost of living entered a second day. At a demonstration filmed by AP Television, women were seen shouting "we cannot buy anything." "Even what we are producing our self has become very expensive, we cannot buy in the market, everything becomes expensive, we don't eat, we don't eat," one local resident who attended the protest told AP Television. AP Television also filmed footage of burning tyres and logs in the street, and what sounded like gunfire could be heard. Riot police have reportedly been firing tear gas into the crowds of protesters to control them. Witnesses said a number of people have been hurt in the fracas, but officials could not immediately confirm any injuries.
