Reggie: Finding and playing games on the Nintendo 3DS will be more convenient than on smartphones

http://nintendo3dsblog.com Reggie Says "Finding and playing games on the Nintendo 3DS will be more convenient than on smartphones" *** Transcript: Hey guys, David here from nintendo 3ds blog dot com. Aside from the 3D effects Nintendo has been very focused on improving their digitial distribution strategy on the 3DS with features like the Virtual Console and the new Nintendo 3DS Shop. And, just in case you were starting to doubt this refocusing of priorities, Reggie, the President of Nintendo of America has restated that, quote: "finding and playing games on the 3DS will be more convenient than on smartphones" Which is awesome, because downloading an app on an iPhone is already pretty convenient, but with the more specific focus of the 3DS, seeing as it's "only" a gaming a device, Nintendo definitely have a great opportunity to create really seamless experience. We're still not sure about the down and dirty details of how Nintendo is going to bring all their different ideas together, but it sounds like they're going to be really pushing SpotPass. In case you've forgotten, SpotPass is the feature of the 3DS that allows your device to automatically connect to wireless networks and then download content like updates to the firmware or maybe some extra content for a game. Anyways, as Reggie explains, even on the latest mobile devices you have to go out, find a piece of content, and then download it. It's not the most strenuous set of events, but Nintendo believe that it's: "a key oportunity ... for the device to do it on its own" Which sounds like an interesting idea, although I sort of wonder how much the experience could be actually improved with content being download automatically. Automatic firmware upgrades is great, and if there's free DLC that'll be awesome, but the only other pieces of content I can think of is things like highscores and other bits of data that doesn't really affect the games themselves. Let me know what you think though. What sort of content could be downloaded automatically to your 3DS that would make you happy? There's also a little talk of media partners for the 3DS, which would allow us to download or stream 3D movies straight to the device, but Reggie wouldn't name any names. Still, it's nice to know those aspects won't be purely for Japan. But that's it for now. Make sure you leave a comment below, I do read everything everyone says, even if it is a bit difficult now to reply to everyone, and also click the Like button, cos that helps too. But I'll talk to you later.
