6. The Surprising Prominence of Women at the Tomb (Luke 23:53-24:11)

In Jewish society of Jesus' day, women took a back seat to men. Therefore, according to David Bivin, editor-in-chief of JerusalemPerspective.com, it is amazing that the Gospels have preserved traditions about the prominent role women played in the hours following his death. While Jesus' male disciples are in hiding, his women followers prepare spices, go to the tomb, find the tomb empty, and report that to the disciples.
