The Little Mouse, the Lion, and the Sleepy Bear

Once upon a time, in a peaceful green forest filled with tall trees and soft moss, there lived a tiny mouse named Milo. Milo was small, quiet, and kind, and he loved his cozy nest under an old oak tree. Not far away, in a dark rocky cave, lived a very big bear. The bear had gone into hibernation during the winter… but spring had already passed, summer had arrived, and still the bear slept on—snoring louder than thunder. Every night, Milo tried to sleep, but the bear’s SNORE… SNORE… SNORE! shook the leaves and rattled the stones. “Oh dear,” sighed Milo. “I haven’t slept all winter.” One sunny morning, the little mouse bravely walked to the bear’s cave. “Mr. Bear,” Milo squeaked gently. “Mr. Bear, summer is here. You can wake up now.” The bear only turned over and snored even louder. The next day, Milo returned with a tiny bugle. He took a deep breath and blew as hard as he could. Tooooot! But the bear didn’t move at all. Feeling tired and sad, Milo wandered through the forest until he met his animal friends. “What’s wrong, little mouse?” they asked. “I can’t sleep because the bear won’t wake up,” Milo said sadly. “Hmmm,” said the owl. “Maybe the lion can help you.” “The lion?” gasped Milo. “But he’s the king of the forest!” “Exactly,” said the deer. “His roar can wake anyone.” Though frightened, Milo gathered his courage and walked to the lion’s cave. The lion was sleeping in the sun, his golden mane glowing. Milo turned to leave—but crack! He stepped on a dry branch. The lion opened his eyes. “Who dares come near my cave?” he roared. “T-t-that’s me,” squeaked Milo. “I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I just wanted to ask for help.” The lion frowned. “You’re too small to bother me.” Ashamed, Milo walked away. But soon, he heard strange sounds—scratch, scratch, scratch! Behind a tree, the lion was rubbing and squirming. “Mr. Lion?” Milo asked kindly. “Are you okay?” “I… I itch terribly,” the lion admitted. Milo looked closely and saw tiny fleas jumping in the lion’s fur. “I can help,” said the mouse. “You?” laughed the lion—but the itching was unbearable. Milo bravely climbed into the thick mane and carefully chased away every flea. The lion splashed in a lake, shook himself dry, and finally felt calm again. “The itching is gone,” said the lion softly. “I was wrong to doubt you. Thank you, little friend.” Together, they went to the bear’s cave. The lion took a deep breath and let out the loudest roar the forest had ever heard. ROOOAAAR! The bear jumped up. “Is it morning? Is it summer?” he shouted. The forest animals laughed, and Milo smiled with joy. That night, the forest was quiet. The bear was awake. The lion was grateful.
