Moreover, we can clearly see that asking prices for popular used cars are flattening. Prices for some cars even decreased. The last time that we saw such a strong price increase followed by a flat price development was during the Ferrari price bubble in the 80s. Due to numerous factors, Ferrari values soared. Yet, it was not too long before the market turned and the bubble popped. Many cars were underwater and fire sales increased. This raises the questions: Are we currently in a price bubble like we were in the 80s? The market shows numerous similarities which indicate that we might be. However, there are also important differences and one can therefore argue that the two situations are not comparable. In the end, I think that a market crash scenario like we saw in the 80s is unlikely. Rather, I think that we will see flat price developments or minor price decreases.
