An angry crowd gathered in an area around the Israeli Embassy. Some of the protesters lit an Israeli flag on fire. Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike for the explosion at the hospital, while the Israeli military said the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by Palestinian militants. The Gaza Health Ministry said at least 500 people were killed. Jordanian security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Jordan has also called off a four-way summit scheduled for Wednesday with U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders, the country’s foreign minister told state-run television. Ayman Safadi told al-Mamlaka TV that the war between Israel and Hamas was “pushing the region to the brink” and the summit would be postponed. After visiting Israel Wednesday, Biden had planned to travel to Amman for the meeting.
