Wide St.Peter's Basilica STORYLINE A large group of Polish pilgrims arrived by coach in Rome on Saturday for the Beatification of the late Pope John Paul II that will be celebrated on Sunday in St. Peter's Square. The trip from the pope's home country took about 30 hours. "I'm here because I think it's my duty, a duty for all society from my country," said Polish pilgrim Stanislaw Roguski. The pilgrims immediately boarded a shuttle bus for St Peter's Square, where large screen televisions will show Friday night's vigil in Circus Maximus. Tens of thousands of Poles were expected in Rome ahead of the Beatification. Pope Benedict XVI will beatify John Paul on Sunday, bestowing the Catholic Church's confirmation on what millions of the faithful believed long ago: that Karol Wojtyla lived a saintly life and deserves one of the church's greatest honours. Beatification is the last major hurdle before being declared a saint, and John Paul is reaching the milestone in record time, a little over six years after his 2 April 2005 death. Benedict put him on the fast track for possible sainthood by waiving the typical five-year waiting period before beatification causes can begin.
