Academic loses job after anti-Israel tweets

A University in the US is being accused of withdrawing a job offer to a professor after he criticised Israel on the social networking site Twitter. Steven Salaita was set to begin a tenured professorship at the University of Illinois' Department of American Indian studies, before appointment was blocked after a series of controversial comments condemning Israel's latest offensive in Gaza.
