Holmes was inspired to start his business when he was 15 after reading Farrah Gray’s ‘Reallionaire.’ He then had his grandfather teach him how to make applesauce and spent a year perfecting the recipe. “I chose applesauce because I looked at the market and I saw that applesauce kind of was a product that was known as a commodity and there was so much opportunity in the market to make it a specialty,” he explained. “It’s random, it stands out and I wanted to do something that was different than the rest.” Holmes’ applesauce is sold in more than 100 different locations, like Target and Whole Foods. But, as busy as he is, he still finds time to give back. He founded the Holmes Entrepreneur Initiative Program in 2015 where students come and work for the company and earn a stipend, as well as gain necessary skills to start their own businesses. Sales for Holmes Mouthwatering Applesauce reached $50,000 in 2017 and are projected to be $200,000 in 2018.
