Balsam Range Concert Puts Focus On Foster Care

CANTON, N.C. -- The music group Balsam Range from Haywood County keeps winning. Last October, they received the "Entertainer of the Year" award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. The band is playing a sold-out show this Saturday night at the Colonial Theater in Canton. Band member Tim Surrett wants people to know the concert supports foster care in Haywood County, something he's passionate about since his niece was part of the program. "The little survival instincts that kicks in in these kids is heartbreaking when you see it happen. And things we saw when she came in at 3, and now she's about to graduate from college It's incredible," says Surrett, who once worked for social services in Haywood County. He says if people would like to make a contribution they can go to the band's website here This concert is part of the band's winter concert series. They all support different area charities chosen by band members.
