In the presentation, Wiwynn will share the lessons learned in developing Project Olympus FX-16 system which is equipped up to 16 pieces 1U Long with 18mm thick EDSFF NVMe SSDs (SFF-TA-1007). Considering the high density and serviceability requirements, lots of trade-offs have to be made during the design process, such as SSD form factor definition, blind mating, balance of airflow impedance & thermal efficiency. And we will also share design tips on control and protection mechanism for hot-plugging, SMbus and supporting dual-port feature, etc. With extreme high storage capacity and hot plug serviceability, the design allows a low maintenance cost for data center operation. The power consumption results have confirmed our efficiency of the thermal design with superior thermal efficiency of low CFM per Wattage, which will reduce data centers OPEX.
