Let us meditate on chapter 4 157 of the Quran Mwalimu Chaka Wa Musa

in the words of Bro Al Fadi; The Quran teaches in Sura 4:157 that Jesus was not crucified but it was someone else who was put on the Cross and was made to look like him, so that the Jews were deceived into believing that they indeed killed Jesus! "And for their [Jews] saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain." Sura 4:157 In analyzing this Quranic passage one can't help but notice the following dilemmas: Historically, the Jews never crucified Christ, rather it was the Romans! How could the god of the Quran, who claims to be an "All Knowing" have missed such fact. Nowhere do we find that the Jews ever accepted Jesus as the "Messiah"! why then does the Quran claim that the Jews knew Jesus was the Messiah! The Jews who rejected Jesus never accepted Him to be sent by God? Yes here the Quran affirms that the Jews knew and acknowledged Jesus as "the messenger of Allah"! If Allah is most "compassionate and merciful" as always claimed in the Quran, why then would this verse state that Allah allowed an innocent person to die on the Cross and deceive others into thinking that it was Jesus? If the point of this verse is to deny the Cross, why then does this verse affirms that the Cross indeed took place but the only difference is that it was not Jesus who was on the Cross, but rather, it was someone else? Can't Allah just stop the crucifixion all together if he is an "All Powerful god"! If the point of rejecting the Cross of Christ is to deny that someone can die as an atonement on behalf of someone else, why then did Allah allowed someone else to die in place of Jesus? does not this defies the purpose of rejecting the Cross in the first place? Who then died on the Cross according to this Quranic passage? why does not the Quran tell us straight forward who died? Islamic commentators scramble to give us some ideas, but none agree on who was indeed put on this Islamic cross. Some even suggested that it was a man by the name "Judas Iscariot" but I wonder where did they get this idea from, since ONLY the BIBLE mentions him as the one who betrayed Jesus and turned Him over to the authority to kill Him on the Cross???? This verse in the Quran affirms that the Cross took place. This verse does not negate the FACT that Jesus was crucified, even if it was not at this particular event the Quran is reporting through this verse. This verse does not deny that Jesus was crucified at a later time! What if Jesus in the first place came to die as a martyr for "many"? does not this actually confirm that indeed the Jews did not kill Him since He already came to die (cf. John 3:16; Matt.17:1-10, 20:16-28). Finally, is not this act by Allah, according to Sura 4:157, to place someone else on the cross, an act of deception which would have led many generations of Christians (for 600 years) to believe that they were saved by faith in the work of Christ on the Cross? Indeed, this is a very troubling dilemma that demands an answer.
