However, Ricciardo wanted to have a chance on a top-performing team, something that seemed so realistic up until a couple of days ago, when Perez stated that he wasn’t worried about the pressure that Ricciardo would potentially present to him as a reserve signing! Still, Coulthard said that there is a high possibility that Perez could see himself leaving the team if he doesn’t manage to keep the performance at the highest possible level. For example, if he doesn’t “level” the driving field with Verstappen, or at least be more competitive in the following season, it goes without saying that Red Bull would consider replacing him with another driver, which is where Ricciardo comes in handy. True, young guns are eager to prove themselves, but remember what happened with Gasly in 2019, when the Frenchman was given 13 races to prove that he’s worth an F1 seat?
