June 30 First Martyrs of Rome — The Christians Who Gave Their Lives for Christ

Today is June 30th. And on this day, the Catholic Church pauses — in silence, in reverence, in gratitude — to remember a group of men and women whose names we will never know. They had no titles. No crowns. No marble statues raised in their honor. They were slaves, freed servants, craftsmen, mothers, and children. Common people living in the most powerful city the ancient world had ever known. And yet, in the year 64 A.D., they did something that would shake the foundations of history. They chose to die rather than deny Jesus Christ.
