Dove the Wreck Corridor During Goliath Grouper Aggregation in West Palm Beach, Florida

Enjoyed two dives drifting over two Wreck Treks in West Palm Beach; the Governor and the Ana Cecilia treks. (When you upload GoPro onto YouTube and even FB, there are some video distortions). I descended with new aperture presets recommended by Backscatter and every pic was a blur! Uggg! Good thing I had my GoPro but with that camera I too played around with a red filter. Thanks to my dive buddy, Bryan for the heads up on the Goliath! The Corridor Wreck Treks are a drift divers paradise. This area is full of amazing animal encounters including Goliath Groupers gather in August and September. We encountered several grouper couples! Other divers were fortunate to see sea turtles, stingrays, and in the distance a lurking reef shark. The Corridor Wreck Trek is comprised with 6 wrecks to drift over. You'll be dropped first in the line on the Ana Cecilia. The Ana Cecilia was sunk on July 13, 2016 and it didn’t take long for the Goliath Groupers to make her their new home. This wreck is a 170-foot cargo ship. Drifting with the current will bring you to the Mizpah. The 185 ft Greek Luxury liner was built in 1926 and was sunk in 1968 to serve as an artificial reef. Only 60% of her former 160-foot hull remains intact. The Mizpah is upright and intact except for a split forward of the upper deck in 90 feet of water. The Mizpah for years has been a very popular wreck for divers to see the seasonal aggregation of Goliath Groupers. Every Fall, between August and October, there can be at least 30-50 of these massive fish siting on the bow or out on its sides. Close by is the wreck of the PC-1174, an old military patrol craft, 165 ft long which was sunk in 1968. In the years since, the PC-1174 has broken into several pieces. Divers will come upon the fourth wreck of the Amaryllis. All the decks and super structure on the 450-foot ship were removed when she was salvaged after washing ashore during Hurricane Betsy. Today, she is referred as the 450-foot canoe. Should you still have enough air and most don't, you will likely make it to the 80 ft flipped over China Barge. From start to end the Corridor is a 1,700-foot long drift dive. We had excellent seas with swells barely a foot on a bright sunny morning. Viz was a bit low. 08/28/2022 Music by Z8phyR from Pixabay.
