WASHINGTON (TNND) — The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza has pushed many Palestinians to the brink of starvation. Now, an 11-week blockade of aid getting into Gaza has apparently ended did just end after mounting pressure from the West, including President Trump. On ABC's "This Week" Sunday, Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff spoke about the relationship. "Everyone is concerned about the humanitarian conditions in Gaza. That said, it is a very complicated situation there logistically we are. I don't think there's any daylight between President Trump's position and Prime Minister Netanyahu's position. But according to Axios, Trump wants Prime Minister Netanyahu to "wrap it up," as Israel does the opposite, pushing ahead with plans to control all of Gaza. On Monday, Netanyahu made his intentions clear: "This is part of the effort to defeat Hamas alongside the intense military pressure and our massive incursion, which is essentially aimed at taking control of all of Gaza." Meanwhile, months of negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release, which the Trump Administration has taken an active role in, have shown little progress. President Trump’s first foreign trip was to the Middle East, but did not include a stop in Israel. It did include an announcement said to anger Prime Minister Netanyahu. During a May 13 speech, Trump said, “I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance at greatness.” The once overly friendly relationship between the two leaders is also tense over a planned Friday meeting in Rome between the Trump Administration and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as Israel is reportedly preparing to strike Iranian nuclear facilities. During a State Department Briefing on Thursday, Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce spoke about the upcoming meeting with Iran, "Our involvement is really because we feel we can make a difference. Certainly, the fifth round of the nuclear talks would not be happening if we didn’t think there was potential for it." The bottom line is there has been a shift in just how much President Trump heeds Israel's wishes, but the relationship is expected to be a close and important one given the long history ad expected pressure from so many lawmakers in Congress. _______________ Follow KFDM on social media: KFDM on Facebook: / kfdmnews KFDM on Twitter: / kfdmnews Subscribe to KFDM on YouTube: / @newsonkfdm For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit https://kfdm.com/ Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://kfdm.com/watch Have a news tip?
