Titanic 112 Year Anniversary Comic Dub Special

April 14th, 1912 was a cold night. Icebergs were a well-known threat to ocean liners at that time of year, and the ocean was filled with them. With a moonless sky and calm waters, the bergs were harder to see. The only real source of light were the stars and the Titanic’s own lights. At 11:39 PM, an iceberg was spotted, and the Titanic was heading directly for it. The order hard to starboard was given, along with all engines to stop, but it was too late. At 11:40 PM, April 14th, 1912, the R.M.S. Titanic struck the iceberg on the starboard side, popping rivets and opening up small seems in her hull beneath the waterline, allowing water the pour in. The Titanic was designed to be able to stay afloat with a total of 4 compartments flooded, but the iceberg punctured the forward 6. There was no saving her now, the Titanic was doomed. Titanic had a total of 20 lifeboats onboard, but they could only hold 1,178 people, roughly half of the 2,208 passengers and crew onboard. Most people didn’t want to get on the lifeboats due to the feeling that they felt safer on a warm, lit, supposedly unsinkable ship, rather than going into the cold, dark, rough sea on a tiny lifeboat. This, coupled with the order women and children first lead most of the early launched lifeboats to contain less than half of their maximum capacity, some with barley having 20 occupants. In the meantime, distress calls were sent to every ship that would listen. The closest ship to respond was the Cunard Liner R.M.S. Carpathia, but she was hours away. As the Titanic went down by the bow, the stern began to rise. At 1:40 AM, 2 hours after the collision, the water level had reached the name Titanic on the bow. By 2:10 AM, it was the beginning of the end. As the forward part of the ship was pulled down, the stern began to rise higher and higher out of the water. Funnels collapsed at their bases and people ran towards the stern to avoid the freezing water as it steadily enveloped the ship. Around 2:17 AM, the Titanic split in two. The stern settled back and soon began to sink, slowly rising higher out of the water until she slipped beneath the waves at around 2:20 AM, 2 hours and 40 minutes after she struck the iceberg, leaving 100s of lives in the cold water of the dark Atlantic Ocean. Eventually, the treacherous 28-degree water took the lives of those floating in the sea, barring a few survivors. It wasn’t until 4:00 AM that the Carpathia arrived and rescued the 712 survivors. We will never truly know 100% what happened that night, but it is important to know and recognize that above all, it is still a tragedy that took 1,496 lives, and it is important to remember those who did not survive 112 years ago today. Rest in Peace.
