Between the temple pylon's two great towers, the dream priestess throws open the ornate gate... Two years ago, the poet Beautyseer began to record and post his work here on The Beautyseer Channel. Now with more than 500 poems, this channel has attracted nearly 10,000 views since its October 2010 inception. As the second anniversary of the first posting approaches, consider which poems and meditations have spoken most strongly to you and others in the YouTube audience. To date, 15 readings each have been viewed more than 100 times. These "People's Choice" poems range far and wide in subject matter, from the betrayal of a small child's trust by her mother ("Mother-Daughter") to the reception that Svetlana Stalin received when she moved from Russia to Wisconsin ("Svelana's Welcome"). They include meditations upon the mystical institutions of healing in Ancient Egypt ("Dream Temple") and Rome ("Ancient Healers"). One is a remembrance of meeting a dynamic young female astronaut who later died in a space shuttle accident ("Fire in the Sky"). Another recalls an encounter in Hollywood with a porno movie star ("The Other Marilyn"). Yet another retells in a mythic style Lady Diana's tragic story ("A Fairytale"). Here also is Beautyseer's tribute to Irish poet Seamus Heaney (Chestnuts"). And a meditation upon a visit to Manorhamilton, the West Ireland village from which Beautyseer's forebears immigrated to the U.S. in 1848 ("Out of Manor Hamilton"). These viewers' favorites include a celebration of a public art project in Providence, Rhode Island ("Waterfire"), a whimsical piece about a failed lovespell to lure Jennifer Lopez ("A Simple No Would Suffice"), and a frenetic sci-fi rewrite of the Titanic disaster from the viewpoint of a cruel future that masters time travel, but uses it merely to amuse wealthy hedonists ("Extreme Time Tourist"). These poems even include a tongue-in-cheek contemplation of the cliché depressive, self-destructive poet ("Suicides Poetical"). Yet at their best, Beautyseer's poems most frequently depict relationships in a highly sensitive way. And while various in tone, the most popular here also include a meditation upon the toys of long ago ("Childish Things"), and a sensitive seeing of a young woman in San Antonio as she is sketched at her boyfriend's insistence ("Riverwalk Sketch"). For the next three weeks we will reprise the top most frequently viewed 15 poems, in new editions. Which one of Beautyseer's more than 500 pieces is YOUR favorite?
