Good evening one and all to the celebration of the Holy Mass on this Wednesday of the third week in Ordinary Time. Today is the Memorial of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church. In the reading from 2 Samuel we ponder why God refuses the plans of king David. Were his plans motivated by pride as if David were God's benefactor? Did God ask for this or does he ask for our obedience with hearts yearning to serve God and one another? In the gospel today, Jesus asks us to ponder the kind of soil that we are. Does God's word spring up quickly in us and then fade out, or do we persevere as good soil and bear fruit? The Responsorial Psalm is Psalm 89: "For ever I will pledge my love for my servant."
