Call of Duty: WWII is a first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision, available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It marks the fourteenth main entry in the Call of Duty franchise and the first title since Call of Duty: World at War (2008) to return to a World War II setting. The game primarily takes place in the European theater and follows the story of a squad in the 1st Infantry Division as they fight on the Western Front. The multiplayer mode explores other battlefronts that aren’t featured in the main campaign. In the single-player storyline, players mainly control two members of the 16th Infantry Regiment: Private Ronald “Red” Daniels (voiced by Brett Zimmerman) and his close friend, Jewish-American soldier Private First Class Robert Zussman (Jonathan Tucker). Additional playable characters include Rousseau (Bella Dayne), a leader in the French Resistance, and Major Arthur Crowley (David Alpay) from the British Special Operations Executive. Daniels and Zussman serve under Technical Sergeant William Pierson (Josh Duhamel) and First Lieutenant Joseph Turner (Jeffrey Pierce). NFL players Le’Veon Bell and Alejandro Villanueva of the Pittsburgh Steelers also make cameo appearances in the game. The Nazi Zombies mode presents an alternate historical storyline where Nazi forces delve into necromancy inspired by the legend of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa's lost treasure. The narrative follows Marie Fischer (Katheryn Winnick), a German engineer working with the Office of Strategic Services. Her brother Klaus becomes entangled in the Nazis’ experiments, working under Doctor Peter Straub (Udo Kier). Marie teams up with a diverse group—former art thief Drostan Hynd (David Tennant), ex-art historian and Resistance fighter Olivia Durant (Élodie Yung), and military sergeant Jefferson Potts (Ving Rhames)—to uncover the Nazis’ secrets, retrieve the stolen artifacts, and save Klaus.
