Sharp PC-5000 w/ BUBBLE MEMORY MS-DOS 2.0 usage EDLIN, CTTY, MASM, BASIC, Pascal, WordStar, more!

With the help of outstanding folks within the VCF community, I was able to collect together a working Sharp PC-5000 system. The thermal printer, 80x8 LCD screen, disk drive, and bubble memory cassette cartridges all still work. The programs and files used in this demonstration have been archived here: https://github.com/voidstar78/SharpPC... (this includes the COMM and PIANO program in BASIC, DISKT106 Pascal, HELLO.ASM, the QMATH.EXE executable that works in any version of PC/MS-DOS, the Sharp DOS 2.0 image itself, the WordStar doc samples in the DOCS folder, a copy of MASM3 and TP4 used to compile some of these samples, the Sharp PC-5000 WordStar program itself, and all of this also in one consolidated ZIP file). Blog details of notes collected while preparing this video: (more static images and notes on how we tried to prepare a boot image, before finding the original) https://voidstar.blog/sharp-pc-5000/ Highlights... 00:08 Introduction (8088) 01:01 MS-DOS 2.0 Intro 01:32 80x8 LCD Intro / Tandy Model 100 Compare 02:00 Magnetic Bubble Memory Intro 02:31 MS-DOS 2.0 Boot Up 02:45 Non-System Disk Start Up 03:34 CTTY Command Intro 04:31 MS-Kermit Intro and Setup 05:38 Microsoft Macro Assembler Usage (hello.asm) 06:09 EDLIN Usage #1 07:30 MASM Usage (initial compile) 08:28 EDLIN Usage #2 09:35 MAKE Usage (recompile) 10:55 EDLIN Usage #3 / DEBUG for Binary 11:45 WordStar Usage 12:58 WordStar Opening Sample File 13:54 WordStar Adjust Help Level 14:14 WordStar Long Sample Story 15:19 CTTY CON Transfer Control Back 16:34 BASIC Usage (PIANO.BAS) 16:48 Volume Control 17:58 PIANO.BAS Listing (Slow LCD) 18:05 QBASIC Usage (Transfer to '386) 18:50 INTERMISSION BREAK 19:00 Sharp PC-5000 Top Overview (Compartment) 19:50 Sharp PC-5000 Bottom Overview (Expansions) 20:45 Sharp PC-5000 Back Overview (Ports) 22:25 Battery Replacement 23:18 Printer Removal 23:52 Printer Cassette Notes (EA-822R or GRC T550-TTB) 24:08 Sharp PC-5000 User Guide (manual) Overview 24:45 Printer Install Notes 24:55 Printer Paper Notes (Heat Sensitive vs Thermotransfer) 25:28 The DOS Circle 26:06 List of BASIC Commands 26:23 Sharp PC-5000 SuperTools Book #1 (SuperCalc2, SuperComm) 26:33 ScratchPad Feature 27:02 5.25 Disk Sleeves (original media) 27:12 10 Minute Guides Intro 28:07 Dow Jones Reference 28:50 Sharp PC-5000 SuperTools book #2 (SuperWrite, SuperPlanner) 30:22 SuperPlanner vs Rolodex 30:57 BASIC COMM.BAS Program (WiModem Usage) 31:22 bbs.retrocampus.com:23 Connection 32:10 Streamed ASCII Art (Apple Themed) 33:10 Bubble Memory Weight and Details 33:42 Bubble Memory MS-DOS "ROM" Content 34:27 Bubble Memory Transfer Speed Review 35:00 WordStar Non-Document File Usage 36:07 Turbo Pascal 4.0 Command Line Compiler Demo 36:57 DiskTest Run on 5.25 Inch Disk 39:12 Trying to Delete MS-DOS (but it's ROM!) 39:32 DiskTest Run on Bubble Memory 40:45 Easter Egg: Built-In Demo 41:36 SHARP PC-5000 GRX Printing Demo 41:48 Sharp PC-5000 Keyboard Overview 42:38 Keyboard "Graphics Mode" CTRL+1 42:58 Contemporary Systems Comparison 44:20 Ending Wrap-Up 44:32 Final Printing Demo: COMM.BAS Code Huge Thanks goes out to the cctalk and VCF community to their help in various aspects of this presentation which made it possible.
