An acid radical is the negatively charged ion (anion) that remains after an acid loses one or more hydrogen ions (H+). It forms the acidic component of an inorganic salt, combining with a basic radical (the cation) to form a neutral compound. For example, in sodium chloride (NaCl), the chloride ion (Cl−) is the acid radical, derived from hydrochloric acid (HCl).
