Issue 17 JJM: Leg Locks with Yuri Simoes - Spider Guard to Knee Bar

You'll note that all but one of the leg lock variations Yuri shows us happen from some sort of guard. Because of body mechanics, most leg locks happen from this position. If you've got the mount or side control, you're less likely to abandon the position to go for the lower extremities. The application of leg locks from a guard position adds to their potency and danger, because they're not often seen coming. So, whenever drilling these positions, be sure to let your training partner know what's coming, and if you're below brown belt, make sure they're on the table when sparring before going for it. Keep it safe.
