28 Different Ways to Donate & Sell Your Clutter ðŸ“Ķ | Decluttering & Minimalism

An important part of decluttering is rehoming our clutter responsibly. In this video, we'll go over the benefits of donating and then go over various think-outside-the-box donation options. Then we'll talk about the benefits of selling, and then go over various selling options, such as eBay, Poshmark, consignment stores, secondhand sporting goods stores, garage sales, flea markets, and so on. I learned these over the years working as a professional organizer. I hope that this video will be a great resource for you. I find that just knowing of these various methods motivates us to declutter, and subconsciously helps us to let go of items we don't need, use, or love. It's always nice to know that our items are going to get a second chance in a new home, and for some of us, it helps us to let go of clutter that we would otherwise hold onto. Also, if we mindfully get rid of our clutter so that it gets a second chance at use, it's better for the environment. Note: I am a U.S. based professional organizer, so some of the options that I reference are consignment stores and online formats (such as Craigslist and OfferUp) in the U.S. However, if you live in a different country, take any specific suggestions as a guideline, and find your equivalent. There are many great ideas here that I hope you will find relevant. ----------------- For selling clothing, shoes, accessories, and also some home items: Here are referral codes to both Poshmark and Mercari below: Poshmark: If you use the referral code MIKA_310, you will receive $10 off of an order. Mercari: If you use the Mercari invitation link at the end of this paragraph, you will get $10 off of your first order, as well as get $20 when you make your first $100 selling on Mercari. Mercari invitation link : https://merc.li/VZ6mBAQvb These are referral links where you get those perks as described and I may earn a referral credit. Both are my genuine recommendations. Thank you in advance if you use them. ------------------ And a quick note about donations. I have heard and seen in videos lately (probably makes sense that those types of videos might pop up on my feed) that donation centers are being bombarded and that we shouldn't be donating as much. I'm often in donation centers to drop off things for clients, and my local centers throughout the Los Angeles area know me well. Throughout hearing those things online, I've asked almost all my contacts directly about this. Should we still be donating? Is it still beneficial? How accurate is this information? Every contact that I have has told me a similar response: that sometimes they get full towards the end of the day, but they always appreciate donations and there are always people who can use donations, so to please keep donating. Donation centers operate off of donations. They are set up to help disburse and re-allocate items. If they are too full, they will just refuse the hand-off. If you've heard any of this kind of information urging you not to donate, I think take it with a grain of salt and know that you are helping others when you donate. Don't let any of that negative talk turn you off from donating, and be very proud of your selflessness and also of your decluttering efforts!! ------------------ Contents of this video: 0:00 - Intro and why it's important to mindfully let go of your items 1:15 - Benefits of Donating 3:55 - Different Donating Options 8:48 - Benefits of Selling (pros/cons) 10:52 - Different Selling Options 19:09 - Two Bonus Tips 21:35 - Ending Greeting ---------------- This video is a followup to the #minsgame video, where I share the items that I decluttered during the 30 Day Minimalism Challenge.
