Cyclist dead after being struck by a vehicle in Hamilton

A cyclist has died after being hit by a vehicle on Hamilton Mountain early this morning. The collision happened around 5:30 a.m. on Upper Wentworth St. by the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway access. Police say the male victim was struck by a grey minivan while they were both travelling northbound over the bridge. The cyclist was found without vital signs and sent to the hospital. He has since died. Police are working on identifying the cyclist. Police have blocked off the area as investigations continue. There have been over 20 pedestrian collisions in Hamilton so far this year. "We're just asking pedestrians and drivers to take that extra bit of time," said Hamilton Police Media Relations Officer, Indy Bharaj. "As a pedestrian, don't hope that the driver sees you. Take that extra step to make eye contact before you step out onto the roadways. Drivers: minimize the distractions, and put those cellphones away."
