The damage sustained constantly creates new situations that test the player's creativity and composure. You can attempt to rescue the entire crew or leave someone behind to rescue others. As your ship travels across the open sea, you will often be alone. Use your leadership skills to make the most of the resources you have brought with you and, in special cases, try to replenish them at sea by asking your allies for help or looting enemy shipwrecks. Turn off unnecessary devices to conserve your accumulators so they last longer. Ask your crew to stay in their bunks to conserve oxygen. If troop morale is low, you can play a game of skat with them or play music from a nearby radio station to rebuild it. Career in the Kriegsmarine During the game, you will receive missions from the High Command of the Kriegsmarine. These missions are never linear, and you may receive additional orders or face unexpected challenges along the way. Bravely completing missions from headquarters will reward you with additional budget for your commanded unit, as well as increasing recognition for your skills as a submarine commander. You'll need this to upgrade your ship and keep up with the enemy's technological advances. Upgrade your submarine with the awarded funds. Gain additional privileges through reputation points. Purchase new equipment—new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers, and much more. Send your officers to headquarters with special missions to advance research into new technologies, among other things. Realistic Simulation The game's simulation elements are very realistic, but this never comes at the expense of gameplay quality. Despite its extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game, and complex concepts can be learned later, allowing you to gradually develop into a better commander for your commanded unit.
