(2 Feb 2017) President Donald Trump is rattling US friends and foes alike with a series of aggressive moves that have alarmed even members of Trump's party. The tiff between the US and treaty ally Australia is the latest example of how dramatically the diplomatic landscape changed in the weeks since Trump moved into the White House. During meeting with executives of the motorcycle manufacturer, Harley Davidson, he told reporters that "a lot of countries have taken advantage of, terribly taken advantage of us". He criticised an agreement the Obama administration made that would have allowed the transfer of refugees from Australia to the United States. Regarding the agreement, President Trump said "I just wanted to ask, 'why?'" during the meeting with Harley Davidson executives. Trump steered toward fresh confrontation with a US adversary when he put Iran "on notice" to stop testing ballistic missiles and supporting rebels in Yemen, echoing a cryptic warning his national security adviser had issued a day earlier. Neither elaborated on what was being threatened. Senior US officials said they hadn't decided, and Trump said "nothing is off the table".
