4 Foley Catheter Insertion Tips for Female Patients

When you insert a Foley catheter on a female patient, there are several things that you do not want to forget. 1. Most manufacturers do not want you to pre-inflate the balloon. This used to be common practice, but many manufacturers now warn that pre-inflating the balloon could alter the shape. 2. Don't forget to stabilize the catheter before you go to inflate the balloon. 3. Don't forget to perform peri-care on the patient to reduce the risk of infection (CAUTI). 4. Don't forget to advance the catether AFTER you get urine return to ensure that it is properly placed into the bladder.
